    Perhaps in the world’s destruction it will be possible at last to see how it was made. Oceans, mountains. The ponderous counterspectacle of things ceasing to be. The sweeping waste. The silence.

    If you think about it, it’s so silly, it’s almost funny.

    The more you think about it, the funnier it gets. We have a planet abundant in resources, we have basically limitless energy from the sun, we have everything we need as a species, and it’s never enough. We can’t stop consuming. The more someone has, the more they want, the ones among us who have the most are the most insatiable.

    We are endlessly destructive aliens of consumption. We are the Tyranids, we are the Flood, we are the Replicators (Stargate not Star Trek).

    It’s actually a good thing for the universe that our species will probably die on this planet, if we ever eached a spacefaring stage we would wreck havoc on the galaxy.
