Some insurances don’t take photos or videos as proof of ownership, found this out the hard way with lemonade
Some insurances don’t take photos or videos as proof of ownership
Let me get this straight - let’s imagine I have Lemonade insurance and my house burns down due to a wildfire. I carefully took video before I was evacuated but due to the chaos and the fire - I have only partial receipts. Does that mean I’m fucked for anything I don’t have a receipt for?
Not sure about home owner’s insurance, but for the renter’s insurance claim I filed in the past it explicitly said photos and videos don’t count as proof of ownership in the policy. Of course none of that was clear when signing up for the policy.
Potentially you can fight them about it and they might give you some leeway. I will say that I had receipts for most of the stuff I claimed, and I had a bunch of stuff that was given to me as a gift without receipts. They asked if they could speak to that person who gave me the gifts to verify where it came from and I never connected them and they still gave it to me, but for an item that wasn’t listed on the police report they didn’t give me the money for that. I think whoever was in charge of the claim was just trying to close it out quickly because it had dragged on for a few months while waiting for the police reports to come in, so they might have missed the gifts that I provided no evidence for but were listed on the police report. All in all it made me not trust Lemonade anymore and I decided to switch our renter’s insurance to a different company. I think their bread and butter is renter’s who are obligated to get renter’s insurance per their lease agreements and are looking for the quickest, cheapest thing without thinking that they’ll ever use it.
lemonade
Sounds like a meme company.
Fire Insurance CEOs gonna get some DDD treatment
They have sown the wind. And they shall reap the whirlwind.
What an insane country. Stopping to film shit while your house is burning down instead of staying safe.
Should be doing this at least once a year for insurance anyway. No one has receipts to prove everything they own.
We do ours after Christmas because that’s generally when we have the most stuff to update. Takes about 10 minutes. Don’t forget garages and cars.
Also open up closets and drawers and record those as well.
Yes. I took pics of everything I have a while ago. Should do so soon again.
This is actually a cleverly disguised ruse to generate more AI training data
Damn. I guess that’s the future. Anything we digitally do is potentially going to be used for AI training data.
A guy yells out “Honey, I’ll be busy for a few minutes! I’m in the garage! I started taking a vid for the insurance company!” iPhone accidental recording activated and it’s live streamed to Apple for quality control. After analysis is completed - the couple gets offers from Apple Home Insurance and Apple Car Insurance. The guys says “Wow. It’s like they read my mind. Should we switch?”
Ideally you will have done this well in advance as a precaution similar to owning a fire extinguisher, rather than doing it as the fire is on its way. But I understand not everyone has done that as a rule.
