Otoh I’m pretty sure most people would consider Neanderthals humans. Homo Sahelanthropus I’m not so sure. btw your OP then clarified that their comment was sarcasm.

The main character is an AI and recognizes quite a few life forms as “human” or “people,” that wouldn’t be readily apparent to many in real life.
