I’ve downloaded Here WeGo maps, but I’ve noticed that the app lacks a review system. Additionally, the detail level for most places is quite poor.

Which Google Maps alternative is your favorite?

For car journeys, Here WeGo is very good, and is actually the mapping system in a number of European cars. It was a Nokia property, but now it’s owned by European and Japanese car companies. https://wego.here.com/ It can be used on the web or via the mobile app.

Agreed on both Organic Maps and Magic Earth.

Organic Maps let’s you login to Open Street Map, so you can submit revisions and reviews. It’s my goto right now for an alternative.

Giving up Google Maps is hard though, they bake it into a ton of services. Everyone mocked it, myself included, when Apple maps launched, but I’m now really glad they are a player in this space.

I’ve tried and tried to use OSMand+, Magic Earth, and Organic Maps but I swear Maps is the one thing I just can’t replace. Between Google’s reviews, accuracy, traffic data, and coverage, I have not found anything that compares.

Yeah I use OSMand+ for my basic trip planning, but most of the time I switch to Google Maps for the traffic data and for re-checking information on, for example shops or restaurants.

Technically if you’re using Apple Maps you’re mostly using OpenStreetMap (UK) and TomTom (Dutch) so you’re not committing the gravest kind of crimes against European motherland.

Apple pays TomTom for their map data. Using Apple Maps on Apple devices is a natural choice for those who are looking for a polished alternative that doesn’t sacrifice too much compared to Google Maps.

Thanks for explaining! I’m an apple user so this can be a valid alternative. I wonder what other people think about it. I guess it is still better try to support other platform directly

These are not my favorite, but worth a try.

    • Apple Maps. For non Apple platforms, you can use DuckDuckGo to search for something and then click on maps on top. That gives you Apple Maps in the browser. It can provide directions as well.
    • Yandex.com/maps also is an option
    • Waze is great for driving and navigating

For reviews, I guess yelp and similar are an option.
