A Illustration of the unrealistic standards that society sets for men

At one point some Greeks were trying to define the word Man, they came up with a featherless biped, and the next day someone released a plucked chicken in the school.

There are some words that are notorious for being hard to define. What they figured out was for those words to instead build up criteria.

Not just someone, the legendary philosopher Diogenes. One of my favorites stories is that one day he was cleaning veggies in a river or something, when Plato walked up and was like “You know Diogenes, if only you could pay taxes to the king you wouldn’t have to wash vegetables.” And Diogenes responds, “You know Plato, if only you could wash vegetables you wouldn’t have to pay taxes to the king.”

I always thought the time span of philosophers existing was so large, none of the famous ones would be alive close enough for them to have had any conversation.

But turns out it is some sort of Marvel Cinematic Universe type of shit where they all lived together.

Now I need a philosopher Avenger team.

            Some good diogenes sayings:

(To Alexander the great) “All that I need is for you to move (to stop blocking the sun)”

“If I were to be anyone, I would be diogenes”

Don’t forget he was totally fine with just being chucked in a field and eaten after his passing.

One of the few philosophers of his time to argue against slavery in any notable form, because he just didn’t care if he pissed off his patrons.

I’m still unsure what it even means. Based in what? Reality, fantasy? It’s clearly a US thing and often seems associated with the more right wing

It’s fucking stupid … There’s a story about.it originating with an obscure ass rapper a few years back but I don’t buy that… It’s really from reddit, absolutely right wing, and completely stupid as fuck.

It absolutely was repopularised by Lil B, I was there for it. My understanding at the time was that it was a reclamation of the word from an original slang meaning of being strung out on crack. Lil B was celebrated ironically by the 4channers that later propagated the right wing appropriation of the term. I always interpreted that to refer to being strung out on ‘the red pill’ i.e. being unapologetically fascist.

Bullshit on your first part for sure…

This is also related to the equally stupid explanation of the origin of people saying “cap”

People made up these explanations after the fact without a doubt

At least base your distaste on reality. The term was born on 4chan back when it had a mostly leftist penchant (around the time the OWS movement was going off). It has nothing to do with “right wing”, that’s just you putting political polarization on everything.

The definition of a man, where it came from, the argument. These people aren’t the educated thinking type.
