I hate Obama as much as any US president, but it would be incredibly funny for the Republicans to allow Trump to run for a third term just for Obama to swoop in and beat him.

I think the arguments they’ve been cooking up are trying to use the non-consecutive terms as a loophole. That simultaneously enables a third Trump term while not allowing a third Obama term.

      Basically
If you’ve served two terms in a row: you can never be president again.
If you’ve only served non-consecutive terms: you can be president again.

The 22nd amendment’s language pretty clearly doesn’t actually allow that, but that’s what they seem to be going for and the Supreme Court can pretty much interpret the Constitution however they want.

But pretty much that exact kind of thing has been used by the US as an excuse to coup Latin American leaders, including Evo Morales in 2019. Although Evo had a stronger constitutional argument iirc.

he won last time because they made voting laws easier to improve voter turnout and he pulled in 3rd party voters using campaign promises that the didn’t deliver on; i wonder if he’ll be able to win again now that those laws have been replaced with voter suppression and 3rd party voters know that he’s full of shit.

You know what, the guy could get whole and coherent thoughts out of his mouth. Sometimes I wish we could go back to the days where our war criminal leaders sounded like they knew what they were doing.

The day they nominate him is the day the procedure driven nerds that have assisted in hamstringing change were convinced that the only way to save the rules is to break one.
