Any site that is deemed to be “more than thirty-three and one-third percent of total material on a website” porn is required to ID Louisiana residents.

Simply clicking “yes I’m 18” on a website is some nonsense.

Is it though? Trying to stop under-18s from getting a hold of porn is a foolish endeavor, just like trying to stop them from having sex. It’s going to happen no matter what you try. A simple “yes I’m 18” gives that “well we tried” so adults can act like it doesn’t happen if they want, and it would most likely keep out younger kids who happen to stumble on it somehow.

    Good but also bad.

I am absolutely ok with ID being a requirement for pornography access, it should be applied across all porn companies. The landscape of the internet could be transformed into gateways for this and compliance wouldn’t be that difficult in the longterm.

On the other hand, I worry about government access to data on what kind of pornography you are watching. I think it’s very dangerous information.

      This is Louisiana.

The law’s not for protecting minors, it’s for surveiling gay people.

I’ll root for porn gatekeeping when the gatekeepers aren’t Christofascists that want me and mine dead.

Could have a limited ID service that provides an age verification code that verifies age while not providing identity. Have it expire and require re-renewal every x number of days.

The verification service will check your actual ID and then give you the age-verification code, the porn sites then only get that code from you with no link to you as an individual, they only have that code.

It’s not perfect but that’s why you have it expire and require renewal. The point isn’t making it perfect but making it harder for children to access or stumble across this content.

sounds like a national ID system, pinko. I have a God given right to get onto domestic airplanes using only a credit card and renew my driver’s license using five kinds of utility bills and a letter from my grade school teacher

I’m ok with credit cards being the method of checking whether someone is 18 or not if that’s what you prefer. Can’t get a credit card without being 18 anyway. If you’re fine with using it for a plane you should be fine with using it for age codes.

(sarcasm. For some reason you can get on a domestic plane without an ID, at least in 2018 they just asked me for a signed credit card w raised numbers. Probably a bad idea to tie private credit cards to public safety stuff and not everyone has credit cards.)
