Big facts, Princess Mononoke is a role model.
How about Disco Elysium? Or is it too heavyweight?
That’s for after the manifesto, so you get all the bits.
An excellent point.
I remember loving Small Soldiers as a kid but couldn’t tell you what the plot actually was
I saw it again recently and its fucking sweet. They’re toys with advance computer chips in em that makes them essentially alive. The ones marketed as the hero’s in the toyline are the army guys who’s only goal in life is to genocide the Gorgonites who are supposed to be the bad guy toys but they’re actually cool. It was directed by Joe Dante (Gremlins) and had an absolutely stacked cast: its got child Kirsten Dunst, Phil Hartman, David Cross, Robert Picardo, Dennis Leary who is don’t like but is well cast as an asshole business guy. The army guys are played by the actors from The Dirty Dozen, so you’ve got Tommy Lee Jones as the main villain, earnest Borgine, George Kennedy, Jim Brown and Clint Walker.the Gorgonites are played by Spinal Tap.
Its fucking good.
Damn, that sounds great. My parents wouldn’t let me watch it as a child because they assumed it was army propaganda from the title.
The marketing for the movie made it seem that way. Its actually a critique of military propaganda being aimed at kids.
Small Soldiers is finally getting the love it deserves! This is one of those movies I had on VHS that I watched so much the tape exploded.
Surprisingly great movie. I had no idea Joe Dante had directed it this whole time, that makes a lot of sense now.
It was on heavy rotation on vhs for me as a kid as well
Dinotopia is so obviously about settler colonialism, even if it went over my head as a kid
Where’s DS9? You’re not gonna understand Marx if you haven’t seen it
There is a weird side chain. Star trek. Somehow like, I am the only nerd that saw falgsc and was just like, "nice”
That show aired in the fucking Cold War, and is excellent proof of “you can make social commentary in science fiction that you can’t otherwise make”. If it admitted what it was depicting, and showed it in an Earth context, there’s no way it would have aired on TV and been a somewhat mainstream fandom. But because it never used the big scary commie words or explained any theory, and it was In Space with a lot of handwaving of resource problems and economic issues, it aired, and when it did face controversy, it was always in regard to some other issue of the time being commented upon in typical sci-fi manner.
for amerikkkans, there’s actually an important step between a bug’s life and the communist manifesto, which is of course the communist manifesto but tony hawk gets to keep his stuff

I thought you were joking, but no, it’s real.
In doing so, he saves Marx and Engels from becoming a casualty of their time given their inability to foresee the bodacious shredding a Californian skateboarder would accomplish nearly a century after their deaths.
Damn I knew he was old but I didn’t know he was tearing up the half pipe prior to 1983. That’s wild.
Edit: Just realized he is that old holy shit Tony Hawk was born in 1968 lmao. mfer is almost 60. Now I feel old.
Tony Hawk had been a pro skater a LONG time before the games came out. He was skateboarding first rich kid
Heese has also written several other barely passable parodies, including “The Great Gatsby: But Nick has Scoliosis,” “Moby-Kevin,” and “Pride and Prejudice: But Mr. Darcy is a Vape God.”
Might have to read some some of these.
oh nice they’ve updated since i was in the pipe, it was the communist manifesto but imagine a burger for me (yawn)
Antz has Woody Allen in it though
A Bugs Life has Kevin Spacey
Antz freaked me out. Let’s add the Bee movie instead
wow, I saw this in theaters as a child and haven’t since then. Guess I know what I’m doing tonight.
