I joined back in the early 2000s when they were still “Do no evil” Google.
Now they’re “pure evil” Google. Like every other big tech company anyway.
I started in computer science in school with a passion, and now I hate that field with a passion.
Same, I had that passion, truly believed tech would save us from so many pitfalls. Now I’m ashamed of the companies I’ve worked for. They’ve bastardized all of the ideals for short term profits. Not even long term investments just whatever will get them a few pennies more tomorrow is prioritized over will will get them dollars in a year.
It’s disappointing and sad
Agreed. I started to wonder what happened to my passion. But the thing is, I still really like electronics and that sorta thing, it really is just the monopolization and various anti-consumer practices that killed my love of computing. So now I’m considering an EE degree instead.
That’s actually not a bad idea. You could actually fix things. Physical things.
I mean, they never meant it in the first place. They just feel comfortable saying that now that aNtI wOkE is cool.
If they whant to get those LLMs running, they need to start drilling baby.
Headline: “Company does the thing that all companies do!”
@fossilesque Screw them.
20+ year streak of carbon neutrality (at least on paper) down the drain for a hype cycle
Kinda difficult with AI and Trump gutting renewable energy. I guess they could do it by killing AI or moving their server farms to Iceland but common sense and AI don’t go together.
