On my personal phone, no less.

It’s a photo of Randy Savage ripping his glasses off his face. My employer told me it’s unprofessional to call customers and have this show up as it may mislead the customer. I told him it was unprofessional to ask me to make phone calls on my personal cellphone and if he paid my bill he can tell me what to use.

He is going to Tmobile when they open to get me a company phone, he says. What a dumbass.

having a separate work phone is so clutch. i never appreciated how much. i used to just be some independent worker, so my phone got me work and thats how it was for a long time. gotta answer every call to eat.

then i worked 10 years for a large employer and they kicked in cash to cover part of my cell plan since work required i have one. like maybe $15/mo, so practically symbolic for most. i was a clever boy, so i got the cheapest/wifi dependent plan in the universe, so it covered like 70%.

then i got a job a year ago where they issue you one in day 1. its a little awkward to carry 2 sometimes, but outside of work hours i can lock that phone up and ignore it completely. i don’t have to read text messages from colleagues with shitty boundaries and no work-life balance, or even see that anyone has emailed me. i can’t tell you how many times some swollen asshole would make my phone chirp on a sunday night at 11pm, and i would instinctively look at it because that’s gotta be somebody i care about with an emergency, right? nope, some careerist psycho with some terse call to action injecting themselves into my relaxing evening.

now? i will see it all when my workday begins and i will stop concerning myself when the workday ends. a beautiful firewall.

He did go and get me a phone today. Im looking forward to giving all my PITA customers the new number and telling them thats how to contact me from now on. He gives me something like 40 bucks a month, 10/weekly to cover work cell usage. it is purely symbolic and in actuality does not cover the amount of calls I make that are solely for his profit, from my phone.

You have no idea how many people will save your number and call your personal phone, once they find out you’re a plumber/electrician/carpenter/etc whether you gave it to them with that intent or they saved it the one time you call to give them notice ‘the tech is en route’ and then expect you to answer when they call. I cant wait to only talk to those people during business hours.
