Forty years ago today (Oct 15, 1985) a clear loud climate warning was given. We didn't listen.

If you and I lived in a rational world, a world that cared about the future of human life – and indeed all life – on the planet, then by now October 15 would be internationally recognised as “The Day We Woke Up.” We don’t, it isn’t, and the carbon dioxide concentration continues its relentless […]

Fight back against this nonsense that aims to place the blame for global climate change on the general population. Fuck that. We’ve been here screaming about it since before this acknowledgment.

Know what the real issue was? The handful of rich fuckers who caused the crisis knew, too, and didn’t give a shit. Let us all burn as long as their little line goes up.

“We didn’t listen”-- who the fuck paid for this article?

Late 50s. By the 70s, car emissions were being regulated.

1896 was the first time CO2 emissions were linked to an increase in global temperature. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Svante_Arrhenius

Other sources were warning against it in the 50s. Watched an Ingrid Bergman/Cary Grant movie last night called “Indiscretion” from 1958 where they showed a newspaper headline, “The world’s weather is changing.”

Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:
