Those who were around in the early days of the news megathread may remember Pedro Castillo, the left-leaning leader of Peru who was deposed in December 2022. He was replaced by Dina Boluarte, the first woman to be President of Peru, who described herself as a progressive but afterwards routinely sided with Peruvian conservatives and American interests. To say she was unpopular is an understatement of titanic proportions - she descended to such lows that she was, at one point, the single most unpopular leader on the planet. As with most deeply unpopular leaders that side with the West, she kept power for a bafflingly long time.

However, on October 10th, after a period of protests against the government, she was impeached and removed by Peru’s Congress in a unanimous vote. José Jerí was sworn in as the new President, who was previously the President of the Congress and is a member of a centrist Peruvian party. The government is trying the classic strategy: keep doing the same thing as before, and sacrifice an unpopular figure - here, Boluarte - in the hopes that this appeases the crowd.

Is this strategy working? It doesn’t really seem to be - protests are not only continuing, but strengthening, as it is clear that neoliberalism will not reformed and the brutality by police will not stop (there was very recently a high-profile case in which a musician, Mauricio Ruiz, was murdered). Controversies surrounding Jerí, including allegations of SA, are already being reported. If Jerí is deposed, the next person in line to try their hand at ruling will be the former army general Roberto Chiabra, who would be the ninth President in less than a decade.

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists
Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Sources:

Defense Politics Asia’s youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.
Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don’t want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it’s just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
Simplicius, who publishes on Substack. Like others, his political analysis should be soundly ignored, but his knowledge of weaponry and military strategy is generally quite good.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists’ side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.
https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster’s telegram channel.
https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.
https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.
https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a ‘propaganda tax’, if you don’t believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.

Pro-Ukraine Telegram Channels:

Almost every Western media outlet.

Warning From Economists: Reckless Spending And Tax Cuts Projected To Send Danish Economy In Tailspin

A council of bourgeois economists advising Denmark’s Social Democrat-led right-wing regime has issued a stark warning: The Nordic hermit kingdom’s era of budget surpluses is set to end, with public finances projected to plunge into deficit by 2029. This forecast, a sharp reversal from earlier predictions of a modest surplus, points to a potent mix of unfunded tax cuts and a massive, opaque military buildup as some if the leading causes of the fiscal collapse.

While necessary green transition spending and routine benefit adjustments contribute to the fiscal malaise, the core of the problem lies elsewhere. A costly, unfinanced tax reform that benefits the employed while bypassing pensioners and the unemployed, and a dramatic surge in military expenditure exempt from standard fiscal oversight mechanisms.

The fiscal outlook is further clouded by expectations of lower revenue from corporate and capital gains taxes as the economy cools. At the same time, tax deductions for homeowners’ interest payments are projected to consume a growing share of GDP, as rising interest rates increase and property values are rising.

The most significant pressure, however, comes from the regime’s aggressive militarization. The regime is funneling significant sums to traffic arms to the Kiev regime, prolonging the US-Russian proxy war in Ukraine. Domestically, it has launched a military expansion campaign with military spending set to exceede Cold War heights, justified by a campaign of jingoism, fear, and paranoia.

This spending spree lacks all transparency. A group of leading economists, including Frederik I. Pedersen, chief economist for the 3F union, has publicly criticized the opaque process.

“It is a complete black box what is going on with the defense expenditures,” Pedersen stated, noting that no one can accurately account for past military spending or future commitments. By exempting these vast sums from standard oversight, the regime adds concerns about waste and corruption on top of those of fiscal recklessness.

When confronted, the regime has dismissed such criticism. Troels Lund Poulsen, the powerful head of the Liberal Party-controlled Ministry of Defense, made the striking claim that the Danish public “can’t afford not to” proceed with this grandiose militarization.

Faced with the looming crisis, the regime’s economic advisors now propose to balance the books not by curbing military excess or reversing tax cuts for key voter demographics, but by cancelling a proposed and popular pension reform. This reform would have allowed Danish workers, who already face one of the world’s highest retirement ages, to convert some of the gains in average life expectancy into more years of retirement rather than more years of work as is the case today.

Thus, as billions flow unchecked to arms dealers and tax breaks for regime supporters remain sacrosanct, ordinary Danes are being told they must foot the bill by working longer and accepting the steady degradation of their welfare state.

US demands that Denmark sends it more money for weapons, Denmark starts having financial problems as a result, the US gets Greenland for cheap to bail them out.

Win/win/win for the US! And I’m sure that Denmark is begging for even more of the same!

Trump is on tutorial difficulty when dealing with Europe. Europeans literally just shoot themselves whenever America demands anything.

Why is Denmark even building up it’s military? The only countries that can realistically wage war against Denmark are Germany and the US.

Why is Denmark even building up it’s military?

The official explanation is some deranged “the Russian lusts for Europe” bullshit, allegedly Putin is going to come and eat us all if we don’t constantly increase military spending.

On a more cynical level the Danish regime is incredibly unpopular and paranoia over a foreign enemy takes attention away from the regime’s mismanagement of the cost-of-living crisis, their many scandals and their regressive policies.

The military spending spree is also a firm of tribute payment to Washington as well as a way for Danish leaders of demonstrating their loyalty to their imperial overlord. Atlanticism had an incredibly strong import in the ruling elite and to most of them being anything but houndishly deferential to America is simply incomprehensible.
