The land acknowledgement at my kid’s school is like:

With great gratitude and respect we acknowledge that we are learning and unlearning on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Salish and Tseil Watauth nations.

It’s really not a big deal.

I went to an event at the maritime museum last winter and the land acknowledgement there was awesome but I can understand why some people might not get it. It was a several minute talk about how the presence of the museum is an occupation and part of a campaign of legitimizing that occupation, and how we should be aware of how we were by our presence participating in that dispossession. The city literally removed indigenous homes to build the museum. Honestly we need more land acknowledgments that make people uncomfortable because what we did was pretty fucked up.
