This is a weekly thread in which we read through books on and related to imperialism and geopolitics. Last week’s thread is here.
The book we are currently reading through is Empire’s Workshop by Greg Grandin. There are two main editions, to my knowledge: the original one with a yellow cover from 2006, and an updated version from 2021 with an orange cover. I am reading the latter version.
Please comment or message me directly if you wish to be pinged for this group, or if you no longer wish to be pinged.
This week, we will be reading Chapter 1.
Next week, we will be reading Chapter 2.
Imperialism Reading Group ping!
We begin Chapter 1, in which we fly through the 19th century, looking at how the newborn America seizes and oppresses Latin America and the Philippines.

Still can’t find an audio version… Anyone got any good tools?
I’m going to make an attempt to record one as I go and upload it here. That is not the highest quality way to read or to create a polished audiobook, so it might have some rough edges, but let me know what you think of the introduction:
If people find it useful I will attempt to keep up!
Damn this is so nice of you! I might be your only customer, but I’ll listen every time
Sweet! It forces me to actually read lol
Chapter 1:
If the chapters get longer which I assume they will they might be too large to upload to hexbear directly lol. But its a fun gimmick while it lasts
.
By asking! you’re now on it.
add me to the ping list!
Done!
