the west helped overthrow the legitimate government in Ukraine in a violent coup
I think that’s false. It seems that Ukraine’s parliament voted to remove the president at the time. There was violence according to that article, with mostly protesting Ukrainians on the receiving end of it: “On Thursday, the bloodiest day of recent unrest, at least 21 protesters and one policeman died”.
I have no idea what you’re talking about regarding Navalny given that even Ukrainians say he died of natural causes
I’m not talking about Navalny’s death. I’m talking about him being poisoned in 2020, a few years before his death. If you don’t know about the case, I recommend reading about it. Navalny pretended to be an FSB officer and he phoned someone who actually worked for the FSB. The real FSB guy admitted on the phone that he was involved in poisoning Navalny.
there is no democracy in Ukraine. It’s ruled by an unelected regime that banned all opposition parties and all independent media
Ukraine’s government was elected in 2019, right? I hope they can have new elections as soon as possible. It would be pretty difficult to run new elections right now, given that some big parts of Ukrainian land are currently occupied by the Russian military.
Ukraine… throws its people into war at the behest of the west.
I hope nobody is thrown into war. I hope every Ukrainian can freely decide whether to join the military, and maybe that isn’t happening. But really the true problem here is the Russian government, who decided to invade Ukraine. Also I think it’s strange that you appear to be a leftist (having an account on Lemmy.ml), yet your talking points are essentially identical to those from far-right supporters of Russia’s invasion.

That whole story is nonsensical. If Russia wanted to poison him, he’d be dead. It’s really that simple. The notion that they tried to poison him, but then for some reason let him fly to Germany requires incredible amounts of credulity to believe.

The regime in Ukraine today has no legal mandate. Period. The idea that Ukraine will ever get the territories that separated from it and joined Russia is not realistic. If that’s your justification for Ukraine to be ruled by a brutal dictatorship, then you clearly don’t care about the people of Ukraine.

No, the true problem is that the west cynically used Ukraine as a proxy to fight Russia, and now shameless people such as yourself refuse to acknowledge what you did. No lesser person than the United States Secretary of State has openly admitted that this is a proxy war.
The only person who’s a far right supporter here is the one who supports the fascist regime in Ukraine that’s doing the bidding of the west.
I provided an article showing that the Ukrainian parliament voted in 2014 to remove Yanukovych from power and hold a new election. Do you think the Ukrainian parliament didn’t have that vote?
you clearly don’t care about the people of Ukraine
I want the Ukrainian people to be able to do what they want, within international law. You want the Ukrainian people to be murdered and subjugated by the Kremlin.
Why are you on Lemmy.ml when all your talking points are those of a far-right supporter of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine?
And I provided articles documenting the coup in detail. You ignored all that showing that you’re not willing to engage in good faith here.
Russia poisoned Sergei Skripal in 2018 yet failed to kill him.
I’m not sure how linking to wikipedia makes the claim any less absurd. Why would Russia send him to Germany if they wanted to kill him, do explain.
The government was elected in 2019, right? And a new election cannot be held because Ukraine’s constitution says that it is not legal to hold elections while Ukraine is under martial law, right?
What years is this? Evidently according to your galaxy brain logic, a dictatorship simply has to declare martial to stay in power indefinitely.
I want the Ukrainian people to be able to do what they want, within international law. You want the Ukrainian people to be murdered and subjugated by the Kremlin.
No you don’t, you want them to die under a dictatorship in a pointless war that Ukraine cannot win. You want people of LPR and DPR to be subjugated by the fascists backed by the west who have been committing atrocities against them since 2008.
Why are you on Lemmy.ml when all your talking points are those of a far-right supporter of fascists in Ukraine?
Fascists do not have official battalions like Azov and they’re not part of the government in other countries last I checked. This isn’t happening anywhere outside Ukraine https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2022/10/15/ckti-o15.html
You very obviously support western imperialism and the proxy war the west is fighting with Russia. You stand with the fascists.
I’m not in favour of any proxy war against Russia, I just think Russia shouldn’t try to annex foreign territory by force. As I said before: “I want the Ukrainian people to be able to do what they want, within international law”. Same for the people of any other country.
What Russia is doing is directly modelled on what NATO did in Yugoslavia. Russia recognized the independence of LPR and DPR, and then accepted their request for military assistance. If you cared about what people of Ukraine want then you’d support the right of the people living in these regions to self determination.
Let’s take a look at a few slides from this lecture that Mearsheimer gave back in 2015 to get a bit of background on the subject. Mearsheimer is certainly not pro Russian in any sense. First, here’s the demographic breakdown of Ukraine:
here’s how the election in 2004 went:
this is the 2010 election:
As we can clearly see from the voting patterns in both elections, the country is divided exactly across the current line of conflict. Furthermore, a survey conducted in 2015 further shows that there is a sharp division between people of eastern and western Ukraine on which economic bloc they would rather belong to:
If you cared about what people of Ukraine want then you’d support the right of the people living in these regions to self determination.
I do. If they want to leave Ukraine and join Russia then they should make that clear to the Ukrainian government through voting and other democratic means. I don’t trust the Russian-backed referendums since Russia has a history of rigging votes.

The coup is well documented, it’s deeply unserious to pretend otherwise at this point

Sounds like you might want to go back to reddit where you can spew your fascist propaganda unchallenged.
I don’t know why you’re posting pictures of far-right people in Ukraine. There are far-right people in essentially every country.
You support far-right imperialism. I don’t, so I guess we just have different views and we’re not going to be on the same page.
