I’m confident that, eventually, communism will succeed. The imperialist countries are all rushing downhill, while socialist countries are rising. It’s the time of bleak reaction now, but that reaction is because the forces of socialism are rising while capitalism and imperialism are failing. The global south is steadily developing now thanks to countries like China after periods of underdevelopment at the hands of Europe and the US, and this is also resulting in increasing socialist sympathies.

i wish i shared your optimism, but i atleast don’t doubt that it will happen eventually.

my pessimism is fueled by my proximity to the developments of us empire’s recent successes in doubling down in latin america and it predicts that a socialist dominating world hegemony will come after a time when the planet is on man-made life support after most of the high profit resource depletion activities have wrought their havoc on the environment and throngs of climate refugees flood the world like it did in the bronze age collapse.

Your fears are valid, of course, but I genuinely think that the violent flailing of the US Empire that is going on right now is out of desparation, and won’t actually work out. It will be messy, though.

enough of it is working in latin-american and asia (ie nepal) right now to warrant this fear because the oligarchical powers on each country are doing it themselves and on behalf of the us empire; the us doesn’t have to expend much of any effort at all re-enforcing its control in the americas.

milei cozying up to trump to the tune of 20 billions dollar and both machado & tellez publicly inviting him to invade venezuela and mexico (respectively) with that latter being significantly more concerning since she’s as an active senator and her party is in full support of her and is also the largest political rival to sheinbaum/morena and also enjoys the us empire’s full support.

Yeah we need to organize more and fight this kind of bs. There will always be people willing to sell out, so we can count on them having support. On the other hand the cracks are showing, if we agitate enough we can prevent the worst from happening in many countries, and accelerate the demise of the empire. We won’t win every battle, we just need them to lose some.

we’re going to find out how far organizing will take us if the us ends up invading venezuela.

I don’t think popular support for Sheinbaum and Maduro should be underestimated. Opposition to them does exist, of course, and the US Empire is relying on it, but the reason they’ve been successful thus far lies in their popular support.

i suspect we’re going to find out how far popular support will go once the us invades or blockades venezuela.

I don’t think invasion is up, I think it will either be special forces units kidnapping or killing Maduro, or training death squads. They tried a mini Bay of Pigs, and they were caught by fishermen.

No, that’s just an incompetent despot calling the shots. There is enough money and momentum in the US that everyone better fucking hope a more competent piece of shit doesn’t take power when Tacoman dies.

That’s not what I said. I didn’t say they’re self-sufficient. I said they have the momentum to royally fuck shit up on the way down, especially if someone remotely competent starts pulling the strings.

The global south is steadily developing now thanks to countries like China

To be fair, China is an imperialist power that is supporting the Global South in the same way the West enacted the Marshall Plan for Germany and Japan.

China actually helps global south countries. If by imperialism you mean gathering support for their own agenda, sure. But they’re offering material support to Cuba and Venezuela and helping African countries get out of the current neocolonial order.

It’s too early to tell if China will eventually be like the western powers, but so far they haven’t shown signs of being like that. Hell, they forgave debts in several African countries. That’s absolutely the opposite of how the western powers conduct themselves in the global south. Ideally we need to develop to be independent from everyone, but until China actually shows itself to be imperialist let’s not cheapen the word or mislead people on the stark differences in Chinese vs western diplomacy.

No, that’s nowhere close to reality. China isn’t imperialist, full-stop, and that’s why the countries it trades with and establishes strong ties in the global south recieve multilateral development. When the west does so, it forces privatization of safety nets, sets up millitary bases, creates a class of compradors, and runs an extraction campaign.
