I figured after a recent thread and seeing some posting about this stuff on a few sites, folks might be interested in the internal takes from NYC DSA folks on not pushing to primary Jeffries.

TL;DR It seems they’re hoping to get a bunch of state assembly seats they think are more likely to win that would help get Zohran’s policy done. And it sounds like the opposition candidate, Ossé, hasn’t made any friends within NYC DSA over the last few years, leading to a lack of trust that he’ll stand with DSA.

As a DSA partisan on Hexbear, you can imagine I’ve had a lot of conflicting opinions over how things are playing out currently. Zohran is ducking right in a lot of his messaging, and NYC DSA is up to all kinds of bullshit lately. But it’s also a very exciting time to be in DSA, and as any American socialist org will tell you, a self-proclaimed socialist winning mayor of NYC with a growing national org behind him is huge.

I guess it’s just nice to read what seems to be a pretty open explanation of what’s going on in NYC DSA, as opposed to the usual radio silence everyone else in the org gets. I obviously still have disagreements with these folks, but at least I have a position that I can argue against.

That’s ny-15 against Richie torres. Osse is running in ny-8 against hakeem Jeffries.

Osse would still be in the top 10 most “left” congresspersons if elected

No worries. I’m unsure how good he will do in ny-15 bc there is a much worse but still “progressive” guy running in the dem primary who prob has a good chance of beating torres. If Andre faces him in the general it will prob be uglier and I don’t see him winning.

It’s one of those thing where I think dsa and psl should prob try to run like wfp(they have their own line on the ballot but it’s still a dem) not because I think you can change the Dems from the inside but bc of how fptp districts bear out. Idk people a psl have put a lot of thought into it, running in seats they can’t split and let a neo Nazi R win or w/e.

I think in this case DSA should get behind PSL’s third party campaign. PSL is absolutely, resolutely against running on the dem ticket, while large portions (the majority?) of DSA is on board with breaking from the Dems.

Yea I get you. I’m just in the camp that it’s easier to break if you already have electeds to break w you. If the squad(not aocia) was 20-30 instead of 4 members they can actually have a viable caucus. Idk a lot of people have a lot of opinions on this stuff. I’m rooting for them both over both of the aipac Dems

The argument against primarying Jeffries is straight up incoherent, electing six state assembly members is gonna transform politics, but smashing the leadership of the national centrist democrats isn’t? jesse-wtf

The point of electing figures like Zohran isn’t to tail him endlessly and hang on his every word, he’s ducking on challenging Jeffries because he’s still vulnerable until he’s been sworn in, and he thinks signaling that there’s a “right time” to primary the DNC, will create pressure on his adversaries within the dems to tack left, to avoid said primaries

That’s the privilege of besieged leadership and a unique practical play that won’t hold by January, not a permission slip to start trashing candidates who challenge centrist heavyweights, that’s just liberalism pure and simple

We want to create a rupture within the party, to shock the establishment with upset primaries and trigger a proper power struggle, obviously we want this to happen when we’re in a position to actually win that struggle and not end up discredited on the national stage, which is the sole reason behind Zohran’s open-ended refusal

But that is not an invitation to surrender to the DNC, honestly if I didn’t know better I’d assume this article and its author was paid opposition

As that thread is mentioned, I don’t mind dsa not spending resources on him, that’s whatever, priorities and money stuff, whatever, wish success them locally.

I do find incredibly revealing that aocia, (whose attachment to dsa is mainly optics driven from both sides anyway) is completely backing nationally unpopular corporatist imperialist dipshit, and see it as another sign where she is at.

Like say he fails, midterms happen with blue wave, and now she is getting behind good democracy policies, spearheaded by fucking jeffries, stellar plan (while, plausibly, they could catch some concessions in leader elections, if they (progressives) slap dems around, although force the vote already shown that as well)

Anyone that actually believes in “lesser evil” or pragmatic voting could reasonably argue that Hakeem Jeffries losing his seat to a chud would still be a better outcome than him retaining it since it would remove him as the house minority leader. With how every dem voter seems to agree that leadership needs to change they are real opposed to seeing it happen. Maybe they just think Schumer/Pelosi/Jeffries/Khanna will see the light and experience personal growth so they shouldn’t replace them?

I’m not giving him a pass but yea a lot of people have learned a lot since 3 days after Oct 7. Idk like the guy in ny-10 seems to have been fighting his upbringing in a Zionist household. Could he be lying? Sure. Idk how to feel about these things bc I’ve seen and been part of changing the views of people in my own life.

I also kinda despise the smc and rightist caucuses in dsa generally.

Absolute bad faith bullshit from smc.

Citing an early head to head poll is so insane. It name recognition that’s it. The opinion they cite from socialist majority is just full of non sequiturs, the whole yimby section is wild. He worked with an elected after they defeated a dsa candidate, he isnt that other person. The plan has very high percentage of required rent stabilized low income units. Like to call it abundance libshit is insane.

When given the chance to endorse Eon Huntley for State Assembly in 2024 against an opponent backed by the real estate and pro-Israel lobby, he decided to stay silent

Man what does this wishy washy shit even mean? Was his endorsement even sought after? He endorsed him this cycle https://x.com/eonforassembly/status/1983595029210746946

Like there are zero substantial policy critiques in these opinion pieces lmao
