• I wouldn’t mind if AI was used to help with writing the code, but I would mind if it the art and story were AI generated.

I do think that the “Made with AI” label is necessary but I think it needs to clearly state what is made with AI.

Imo, code is yet another form of art, and genai trains on it the same way as language arts and visual arts. Ai code also tends to be glitchy (see microsoft trying to make their code ai, then the code breaking lots) so I think it would be good to disclose that, so if any players have a glitchy game, they know what’s at fault

I agree that “Made with AI” is necessary, and clarification would be very helpful.

      Some ideas I have:

      • In general made with AI (undisclosed)

      • Textures (the colour/texture or if 2d, sprites)

      • Character (3d models)

      • Code (self-explanatory)

      • SFX/Dialogue (audio)

      • GUI (user interface)

      • Other/Multiple (editable tag, specifies any other AI generated assets used)

I think multiple being applicable at once if there’s multiple parts AI generated in a game would also be helpful. There would probably be more categories/tags for everything else that goes into a game.

Have a great day, and remember to be kind! :D

Not saying I necessarily disagree with you, but for the sake of discussion: why do you distinguish between AI coding and AI art?

They were both trained on the backs of skilled professionals and businesses seek to outsource the human skill set for AI tools. What makes an artist’s skills more sacred than a coder?

There is some truth into this reasoning.

But not like this. Not in this climate, not until ai based tools can actually demonstrate any benefit in aiding an artist instead of trying to replace them with low quality slop.

The best lies are build on a grain of truth and that they speak out about this at all is a big tell to how they would rather move.

But we should acknowledge, npc ai, dynamic ingame weather, the decades old blending tool in Photoshop Technically many things are ai or could benefit and i don’t hear many people discuss where to draw the line exactly.

Personally i’d say, at generated images and text/scrip. But i have been day banned on a no-ai place for mentioning npc ai before.

I think they should disclose genai but stuff like NPC pathfinding, terrain generation, etc have been around since before genai don’t have to be disclosed, but can optionally be disclosed.

Hell, even the first video game, ping pong, had an NPC AI of sorts, a simple one, but it’s still there.

Have a great day, be kind, and hope unreasonable bans don’t happen to you again! :D

hey tim if it’s meaningless and going to be on every game why are you opposed to it? shouldn’t you just not care then? are you just scared people might have more reasons to insult your garbage products if they find out you’re using ai generated content

unnecessary outside art and licensing contexts

Gee Tim, so it would be necessary when steam is trying to sell me a license?

Or is he saying that his company, epic, doesn’t license games, but actually sells them outright?

Epic definitely licenses games, if you read tos/eula. He’s just hoping users don’t notice and let it slide unnoticed. It is really nice when AI is disclosed, too.

Tim Sweeney is like Elon Musk, a stupid man who says most of the time bullshit about everything.
The only reason why some people listen is because they have money and some big company.

For the AI part, you need a label. I prefer to buy a non-AI game.
Just because I don’t like that much AI, and how everyone uses this, without thinking or trying to create from their hand.
And I prefer to give my money to someone who is really trying to create something cool without using AI for everything.

AI in games can be utilized to translate text or audio dialog for small studios without money.

This! If I were to make an indie game (which I want to do), I’d want it to be available in in different languages, but I don’t have the time or energy to learn more than 100 languages, so I’d implement something similar to google translate for languages I don’t know, and for ones I do know, I’d try to translate!
