I wonder how much of that was incompetence and how much of that was “I’d rather this repair job take longer so I don’t have to go back out there and have people shooting at me.”
I want to imagine it as dumb guys standing around trying to tell the mechanic how to do their job, but you’re probably right - there were probably some people putting off the inevitable return to hell.
