Scientific advances potentially make previous industries obsolete or expose them for being harmful (in this case it would be how climate readings are exposing the fossile fuel industry), which is a direct threat to capitalists who have invested heavily in said industries. With the understanding that the power of the state comes from the power of the economy you understand that these capitalists are deeply in bed with politicians to ensure that the pendulum always swings in their favor and begin to see why things are going the way they are.
Since they have failed to manipulate those of this institution into manipulating the data for their benefit—make no mistake, they have tried desperately to do so—and they know they cannot intimidate or otherwise coerce everyone into not using the data against them they utilize their systemic control over the ownership of the means by which these institutions conduct their labor to ensure the data never gets collected in the first place.
It’s such a shame, it isn’t like these things just disappear and stop existing. It’s literally just being told “hey you can’t do this anymore” and people capitulating to those demands. Only until the people unite with each other to take back our collective control and tell these draconic control freaks to shove their “order” up their ass will we ever begin to realize a free and just society.
