Cuban revolutionaries, including Fidel Castro (far left) and Che Guevara (center), in Havana in 1960.

On this day in 1959, U.S.-backed Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista fled the country following the victory of Fidel Castro’s 26th of July Movement (M-26-7) at the Battle of Santa Clara, marking the successful conclusion of the Cuban Revolution.

The 26th of July Movement takes its name from the date of with a failed attack on the Moncada Barracks in 1953, however, the movement bearing this name was not formally organized until the attackers were released from prison in 1955. Public resistance continued sporadically until November 1956, when 80 members of the M-26-7 returned from exile.

Soon after landing on the island, a separate revolutionary group, the “Directorio Revoluncionari Estudiantil” (DRE), unsuccessfully attempted an attack on the Presidential Palace in Havana.

Throughout 1957, armed resistance from groups such as the DRE and M-26-7 would escalate. After a failed offensive by the government against rebels in the summer of 1958, the rebels launched a major counter-offensive.

On December 28th, 1958, after a fraudulent election in favor of Batista, revolutionary forces reached the city of Santa Clara. Seizing equipment from an armored train intended to transport government reinforcements, the rebels quickly captured the city, prompting Batista to panic and flee to the Dominican Republic with a personal fortune of more than $300 million.

In the following days, revolutionary forces entered Havana with no resistance, and Castro established a provisional government. The 26th of July Movement later reformed along Marxist–Leninist lines, becoming the Communist Party of Cuba in October 1965.

Batista later settled in fascist Spain, dying there in 1973 at the age of 72.

Man the bar is low. Had a new hire join the team a couple months ago and this guy remembers things that I explained to him before and is just able to handle the issue instead of passing it off to me and I’m so shocked lmao. He’s making work so much easier for me it rules.

It’s so cool to be genuinely on the verge of freaking the fuck out but you’ve got to pointlessly kill time before they let you leave workjail and go home to rip all your hair out so you’re just white knuckle gripping the chair while you sit in front of a blank excel page that’s been open for 8 hours

Got a new guy at work, phillipino dude who’s English ain’t so good, I tend to have training new people foisted on me cause im a people person and this was absolutely no issue at all cause I hafe 15 years experience working with people who’s English ain’t so good in kitchens and especially phillipino dudes, I should become fluent in tagalog at this point. Anyway dude told me closing up he was reslly nervous coming in and thanked me a lot for helping him out and making him feel welcome. Dude was an absolute pleasure and its his first dish gig in his first kitchen, so I’ve got uncarved marble right here. Hes got the movie, he learns quick and he asks questions that show that, this guy is gonna be such a good line cook in like a year

Edit: I do like thar the chef throws any new hires directly under my wing. It is so weird being the guy who’s good with people cause it hasn’t been how I viewed myself for most of my life. When I first started I was called 'ridiculously charming ’ to my face. I think its cause im.funny and genuinely love people

Which of these extraterrestrial molecules could, based on their hydrogen bonds and chemical structure, slot into a human dna sequence and how would they code if they could.

Saying extraterrestrial adds literally nothing to this assignment except it made me actually invested. I have been manipulated, I have been pandered to.

  • Been thinking about how theres only one coffee shop in my town that has a similar layout to this But ironically the kava / kratom lounges are more like cafes than actual cafes. I have FOUR kava lounges [idk how they survive], but they all have couches and are open by noon

An example of peak square enix octopath peak writing, this is a guy in the edgelady thief story called the slaver who acts all edgy and nihilistic about life and how only strength means anything and then in his last portion of his 10 minute screentime he drinks a poisoned cup and fucking dies without even fighting.

I really dont see the point in anarcho egoism, anarcho primitivism, and green anarchism. Communism is inherently green. Egoism is just people reading philosophy alone. Primitivism is just contrarianism.

it isn’t part of a stuntman’s job to sustain injury. They’re human beings too. But they KNOW HOW to do stunts without getting injured. That’s what makes them special.
