I’d be interested in your justification for saying it’s a “pretty insane claim to make,” because it doesn’t seem in the least bit far-fetched to me. OnePlus makes good products, but that’s not enough in a business world that practically prides itself upon not playing fairly.
ETA: 1+ also shot themselves in the foot by becoming the very “bad guy corporation” they established themselves as being against - the latest evidence for which is here. The last OnePlus device I bought was the 7 Pro due to this crap.
