    I think this is supposed to be overstated but I always remember Armin Laschet, possible chancellor candidate in germany two elections back. He lost that one because he was seen smiling at the Ahrtal Disaster where their whole shit got flooded and not really for any other reasons.

    Anyways in his biography he says, mediated, “The belief in God is central to my understanding of the world […]}, if you belief, that there is life after death, you do politics differently than for example a communist, who will try to erect paradise on earth until his death”.

    This is the most milquetoast centrist agreeable to all candidate the nigh-one-party-rule christian democrats in germany could muster and he thinks that. One shudders to imagine what kind of death cult true radicals are.
