Apple has set a new deadline of November 1, 2026 for all Patreon creators to switch from Patreon's legacy billing system to the App Store's in-app purchase system in the Patreon app on the iPhone and iPad, as reported by TechCrunch. Note: This image has been edited to include a pile of cash. Patreon is a platform where creators such as YouTubers can receive payments from fans, which can be a valuable revenue stream alongside ads and sponsorships.
Won’t this just result in everyone bailing on patreon?
It means every podcast with a patreon is gonna spend like 30 seconds an episode begging listeners not to use the app.
Capitalism is the most efficient system for resource allocation
more like people will just access patreon by the web, and picture on me just pull that app from Apple entirely. that, or they’ll just heavily push users into making purchases outside of apple’s watchful gaze lol.
I think the app already encourages you to pay via the site instead of in-app which a few other apps do as well but maybe not as high profile as Patreon. Apple is probably going to delist the app altogether which is fine because it sucks anyway.
