Can’t remember ever hearing of discussions about whether it was nails or rope, but the no cross thing absolutely.
I’m quiet certain that the actual reason for beliefs like that is just to enforce the idea in their minds, that they’re different, better and the only real christians.

I’m on an adderall, sorry about that lol. You’re absolutely right, it’s to make members feel like they’re more special and separate them from the “worldly” types. Mormons do the same thing with the Book of Mormon. While they admit that Christians have part of the truth (the Bible), they claim that they’re the only sect with the full truth, making it so that they’re the only ones that get to go to the best heaven, so everyone has to convert their friends and family members to keep them around for the rest of eternity. It’s manipulative, don’t like it.
