All I want is an EV without a built-in screen or SIM card.
One I can drive off the lot without consenting to an EULA or Terms of Service.
Edit: Holy shit, found one: Dacia Spring Essential

I want a screen for my music and navigation.
I don’t want a screen for the A/C, lights, gear shifting, or other bullshit that car manufacturers are adding.
Backup cameras are mandatory in a lot of markets, which means you’ll probably end up with at least a small screen in whatever you find.
It’s a little bit of work, but you can also remove the SIM card if the car is otherwise acceptable to you.
Lack of SIM card/telemetry is the holy grail for me. What happened to the stereo though?
The Dacia Sandero models before 2020 had a built in head unit…
…with the exception of the Access model, which featured “pre-wiring for an entertainment system”.
I suppose they had to go to some lengths to reach their sub-£7k price point in 2016.
It doesn’t have one.
Even if you get that, there’s no telling what they’ll do when you take it on for service.
The other option is the Slate truck.
1% chance that thing will happen.
The factory is almost finished and they’re setting up the assembly bots right now. They already have 10,000+ reservations and the factory is on track to open this year.
What are you talking about?
Last i looked, they were just saying the tariffs fucked their goal of 20k starting price and launch date. It’s one of the things I’m looking forward to.
That car is rebadged Chinese EV and certainly requires a SIM.
