This could include IP addresses, metadata from uploaded photos, and biometric identifiers such as facial images, fingerprints, DNA, and iris data.
I already hate the collection of fingerprints. DNA and iris is simply ridiculous.
Not gonna happen.
I will visit America again… if Trump and his cronies are either in jail or dancing at the end of a rope, gun control is established and a new political system is implemented. Until this point? I rather visit North Korea.
The US has really nothing good to do these days… Dont count on me, family and friends to visit this abomination of a country in this life time.
Brave of the US to assume that foreign travelers will want to visit!
Everyone thinks it’s just the others that have to worry, and give the authorities the benefit of the doubt, assuming they have good reasons for screwing who they do. They don’t necessarily have reasons at all, let alone good ones. They are dumb and mean and don’t care whom they hurt in their dragnets, as long as they make their numbers. And if you could be said to represent a group the administration wants to target you will make their quota and they will lie to say you deserved it. Just as Pretti and Good were lied about to justify their summary executions, it doesn’t matter if it’s provably false, enough people, and the justice system, trusts, or pretends to trust the authorities, just like those travellers in question might.
Some people are not in the loop. I saw a post recently from someone who was even considering moving there.
Go to Canada instead, it’s the better America
Anyone who would submit to this scares me. How do you live in the most intense propaganda and surveillance environment ever to exist, and just act like it’s normal to not only tolerate that, but to go out of your way to patronise one of the most dangerous actors on the scene?
The best excuse I’ve seen so far is “I’ve got family over there”. Don’t see any other valid reasons that justify travelling to the US. Sadly, DNA gives also information about the relatives, who probably didn’t opt-in for this.
This is truly a wet dream for fascists.
I’ve got family there. My wife’s mom warned her not to attend her dad’s funeral. It’s that bad.
Sorry to hear that. This is insanity.
Business is the other good reason to visit. Just make sure you aren’t involved in hemp or politics or any number of other things if you feel you must travel for business.
There was a woman last year from canada, on a valid visa, they revoked it without telling her after she was over here, told her she had to show up to a location to straighten out some problem, then grabbed her and locked her up for weeks, over a month I think, because of her involvement with a hemp company in Canada presumably. Her politics probably played a role in truth though.
She had money to go home, they wouldn’t let her. She came legally, they went out of their way to revoke it in a way that allowed them to lock her up indefinitely. She only was allowed to buy her ticket back home after the media reported on her story, and she wasn’t alone. Several Canadians and Europeans, some for an expansive definition of working, for those without work visas that visit. The girl that brought her tattoo gun, the girl that came here to housesit as part of her travel, the transgender from germany, forget what that was but similar bullshit.
If the media didn’t pick up on their cases, left to their own devices the administration would’ve deported them to El Salvador or Somalia or something out of general mean spiritedness despite having no good reason to want to hurt them. These are all white people too, this isn’t a minority only problem, the administration desperately wants to unleash the national security state against white do gooders in the US and West.
It’s more than than just social media:
As well as the collection of social media information, the new document proposes the gathering of an applicant’s telephone numbers and email addresses used over the last five and 10 years respectively, and more information about their family members including their addresses and telephone numbers.
An announcement on the website for the US Embassy and Consulate in Mexico states certain visa applicants must list all social media usernames or handles of every platform they have used in the last five years.
It warns that if any social media information is not listed, it could lead to both current and future visas being denied.
What happens if you don’t use social media or claim that you don’t? I assume it will be up to the discretion of whoever reviews the application, and that the entire policy will lead to a well-deserved drop in tourism revenue.
It’s a de facto entry ban.
What happens if you don’t use social media or claim that you don’t?
I guess you will be treated as a damned liar, in both cases equally.
Greetings from the Aryan certificate!
So yet another dealbreaker for their booming tourism industry!
Yet another masterstroke by the current regime, bravo!
What would happen to us who has refused Facebook, Instagram and only held a reddit account on mainstream media, a reddit account that was refreshed every 2-3 years, and eventually removed in favor of Lemmy, and where I am considering another refresh and moving to Piefed?
I am only asking as I am interested in logistics and finding how things work.
