So it was kind of an echo of what we already have, the poverty draft.

In theory registration was optional in the US, however if you’re a male that’s unregistered you can’t get financial aid for college among other impacts. So it was kind of an echo of what we already have, the poverty draft.
This actually is nothing new. Some years back they already did this when you register to vote.
