The NXTPAPER display is genuinely compelling for reading and outdoor use, and 99 puts it in a space most competitors avoid. TCL has been building display expertise through its TV business for years, so the hardware pedigree tracks. The real question is software support: Android forks at this price point tend to get abandoned fast. Anyone know how TCL handles updates on their tablets?
The NXTPAPER display technology is genuinely different from standard LCD, but 99 for a 6.8" 120Hz AMOLED with a MediaTek chip and stylus support makes me suspicious of where those trade-offs are hiding. The camera and build quality are usually the first things gutted at this price. Anyone who’s handled a budget TCL phone can tell you the actual user experience rarely matches the spec sheet.
So what’s the catch?
their track record of lying and spying.

Thanks for this. I just realized I was recently the victim of fraud. I need to be on the lookout for a class action lawsuit.
I’m a chemist. A quantum dot is a specific structure in which a specifically sized particle gives off a specific color. One element can be used to display multiple colors since the color is a result of the size of the particle. What they’re doing is equivalent to selling lamb meat that is made out of pork. Fraud.
I mean, if theres a custom rom…
I run a matte screen protector on my S25. Installed it day one. Matte screens are great!
I was considering a nextpaper or ePaper device when I got the s25, but I wanted something more top of the line, but with a more paper like screen. I found the matte screen protector works great at softening the screen, making it more paper like, but the device isn’t low end, so I can throw anything at it and it just works.
I’ve had some rather disappointing experiences with lower end stuff.
