I don’t even understand what all this money is even going towards, like what individual people at the end of it even get paid and for what, they might as well just be shoveling the output of the U.S. mint into a furnace for what it seems like
The pockets of landowners who sold the land for datacenters, the pockets of construction company owners, the pockets of computer part vendor owners, etc. Basically any owners of a business that produces the sorts of capital a datacenter needs are making bank selling the shovels for this magic bean rush.
And also they’re doing lots and lots of fraud and market manipulation by doing the joke about two economists stranded on an island trading a rock back and forth to build up the island’s GDP enough that they can buy a boat, except for real.
Whatever about coops, bananas or commodity production. I just want an economy that isn’t blatant fraud and corruption.
Wdym? Google, Amazon, Nvidia and their shareholders are the ones cashing in
They are building monopolies (“market disruption”) which is something shareholders go nuts for (it’s like the ultimate thing to get the line to go up).

Aparantly, most of it is the IT equipment and power systems. The land and buildings mentioned by others is a cost, but like, those are just land and buildings. Simple stuff. The real potatoes are the guts of the datacenter.

nvidia must be eating good
$400b for planes that fly as well as my kerbal space planes vs $550B for all of our train tracks.
If anyone thinks this is sane or logical they should be stuffed into a locker. And then that thrown into a volcano.
This is painful to look at
I thought the F-35 had already cost a trillion
A trillion dollars doesn’t get you what it used to anymore!

It’s bcs the chart doesn’t include oil & (separately) car industry. Then other lines wouldn’t be visible.
Fuck megacorp data centres tho.
I’m kinda surpised they actually did it. Sam Altman asking for a trillion dollar for AI infra sounded like a joke
