Teams don’t start accumulating points until they’re officially eliminated from the playoffs. The worst teams are eliminated first, and therefore play more games in which they can earn points.

More or less, with a couple of caveats (Wikipedia was helpful here).
Teams don’t start accumulating points until they’re officially eliminated from the playoffs.
The worst teams are eliminated first, and therefore play more games in which they can earn points.
