I’m having a hard day, but i know one thing for sure. I might just pull wires through tubes and make lights go burrrr, but I support you! Keep being lovely ladies, I’ll make sure your lights are on
I seeeeee you 😳😳😳
how is being a trans electrician? im somewhat interested but i dont rly wanna work in a hugely right-leaning, older cis male dominated field. is it rly that bad?
Honestly, I don’t know. I’m “not trans” at work, just one of the guys. I have a transflag tardis sticker on my water bottle and no one has said anything. I know one transmasc guy at work and he doesn’t have any issues that I can tell. There is absolutely some hate, but I only know one guy who is an open peice of shit about it. It is definitely a white, right wing, cis-male dominated feild here in Nebraska but hate speech of any kind will still get you fired. Most guys don’t seem to care about anything other than your B.O. and doing your job. I love being an electrician. I get to learn things every day, I get to work with my hand, make functional art. After spending months of working your ass off, when you finally get to flip that switch and see all 50 lights come on is truly an experience. When half of them don’t and you have to track down why sucks but being able to explain to the apprentice why your wire connections being tight matters makes it worth it. It’s a job like any other, but I’ve been doing it for over 10 years and out or not ill be doing it 10 years from now. I’ll never be able to wear a dress to work, but I can slip into whatever I want when I get home.
This is a great write-up, thank you. I might consider looking into this. The IBEW in my area (134) is incredibly competitive though, so I don’t think I have much of a chance anyway lol
Its only cis dominated as long as you let it :3
…I should become an electrician….
Do it! Join the union! Become a better electrician than me!
