Was Google - the advertising platform harvesting our data - private and open in the first place?

Of course not, we just need to let this die and move to Linux

Nope. Just remove google blobs from your phone (its easy: just reinstall the OS; they’re absent by default)

    Problem solved.

Reminder that the Finnish brand Jolla is a great alternative for hardware. They are shipping their second batch now. Got my confirmation today.

The “Jolla C2” is actually “Reeder S19 Max Pro S” rebranded btw. Do what you may with this information.

SailfishOS isn’t even Android - yay!
I’m in batch 3, so I have to be patient a bit longer.

How good is the camera? And do banking apps work?

It runs sailfish OS on the Jolla hardware. It can be compatible with android for apps (such as the google play store) but can also be independent with app stores like fdroid. It is unlikely you’ll have any issues with banking apps.

I can’t speak personally to the camera. Typically android and iOS do a better job with perfecting the camera app over open source apps. However, sailfish did release a camera app for Jolla back in October. My guess is it won’t be as good as iOS or android; not due the hardware, but rather the app that processes the pictures/videos.

Here are some alternative camera apps to check out and see what you think.

Also, here is sailfishOS’s main page so you can check out more about the OS: https://sailfishos.org/

I don’t mean the camera app but the camera itself. How does it compare to a pixel phone for example.
