There’s some tech bro nonsense coming out of China’s EV market but a lot of it is genuinely very cool and exciting. Reminds me of when cell phone companies were still figuring out which gimmicks worked and which didn’t. The price points and the trip ranges are easily the most exciting parts for me though.

I wish I lived in the alternate timeline where the USSR was putting out a new Lada EV that still has all physical controls and the only user-facing tech stuff was a head unit with Bluetooth and a small screen for the backup camera. If it made any economic sense, my ideal car would be some low tech 2000s subcompact like a first gen Scion xB or Honda Fit retrofitted with a modern EV powertrain. Well, I guess my ideal car is no car at all, but y’know.

I’m with you. I don’t need my headlights to project graphics onto the road in front of me. I don’t want my side mirrors to be camera feeds. I don’t need a projector screen to unfold in the back seat. I don’t need a dedicated little tablet to replace all the climate controls. I just want to be able to drive in comfort and not pay out the ass for the privilege.
