If you want something without strong educational emphasis I recommend BadEmpanadaCasual Geographic (guy who is passionate about animals), Iron Pineapple (souls-like games reviews), Shiey (urban exploration), Skurry (metroidvania randomizer enjoyer), StyroPyro (mad scientist, tornado and laser enjoyer), Summoning Salt (Speedrun historian), and TierZoo (ranks animals).
When HC released the ‘Work’ video about bosses controlling workers’ time it was a thing of beauty to see all the right wingers commenting their meltdown that they had been learning about about precious western history from a left winger.
Noooo how dare you make me empathize with a little square who isn’t aristocracy
I remember when some of the commenters (perhaps more appropriately known as Rome-aboos) really disliked when he pulled from some anti-Augustus sources which results in portraying Augustus as a smart and shewd politician albeit vindictive, unnecessarily cruel, and disinterested in war.
Those amateurs need to read Ronald Syme’s The Roman Revolution (1939) and learn how Augustus was a proto-Mussolini. Unless they’re so Mommsen-pilled that they’ll give a pass to anyone who has Cicero killed.
Not a big fan of the roman empire all things considered but I’ll check it out. Also I added a bunch more to my original comment that you should check out. Should add more variety.
How sloppy. I think ancient history youtube is fucking amazing when I am high and unsure about the world. I would recommend History Time (variety), Ancient Americas (pre-colonial America), Esoterica (everything occult, Marxist), Al Muqaddimah (Islamic history, Marxist), Aztlan Historian (ancient greece), Let’s Talk Religion, ReligionForBreakfast, Voices of the Past (primary sources read for you), Historia Civilis (modern history but not very crisis inducing), Premodernist (variety tbh), and World of Antiquity (this guy gives me weird vibes but his videos are good).

chuds flattening their entire ideology into A Bunch Of Words That Mean “Bad” has had a lot of really funny consequences

Ohhh, have you ever checked The Historian Craft out? (Mostly Ancient Rome but he also touches on some Bronze Age stuff too).

He mostly talks about stuff like their economy and social structure, often critically. He’s not a Rome-aboo.
