Iirc that’s the old testament, which is part of the Torah
The New testament is all about why you should love each other and not discriminate, and the old testament is included as a reference since Christianity evolved out of Judaism?
Well, the New Testament has plenty of Jesus acting like a general dickhead, doing some pretty despicable things, and making it abundantly clear that he does not condemn any of the atrocities that God requested in the Old Testament.
Also, the status of the Old Testament very much depends on the denomination: it’s an “allegory” in Orthodox Christianity (read: when the book very clearly says that it stands for cruelty and genocide, it’s actually an elaborate metaphor for sunshine and rainbows), whereas Catholicism purportedly takes it quite seriously.
