@vivaldi_browser I really like your browser but I really struggle to use this browser due to the constant crashing, especially using youtube. I feel like I’m on my wits end because it just constantly crashes over and over even just trying to mess with the settings.

I’ve run Vivaldi for the last 5 years on Linux, windows, and android. I’ve watched hundreds or thousands of hours of YouTube with a suite of ad blocking and QOL extensions. I think over that cumulative time, Vivaldi has crashed maybe once.

I think you’ve got something else going on with your system. Specifically, this sounds like a ram over utilization problem. Check your ram usage before and after launching the browser. If you’re approaching the limit, that’s probably your problem. Barring that, i’d start checking syslogs.

Try with the Troubleshooting steps, first to try in a guest profile. Most of this issues are caused by an extension. The Guest Profile put Vivaldi in default settings without extensions,so you can rule out these as cause. Anyway ask in the Forum, there are more people which can help you with it. Don’t forget to post also your sys specs, if you use some special security soft, etc., needed to be able to reproduce this issue which isn’t normal in Vivaldi. The last crash I had in Vivaldi was 10 years ago in the first version. Vivaldi can use Chrome extensions, but it isn’t Chrome and some extensions can enter in conflict with inbuild features or not working as expected. In the forum you can find a threat with incompatible extensions.

What operating system are you on? What hardware? Do you struggle the same when you install the dreaded Edge or Chronium/Chrome as well?

I’ve been using Vivaldi for more than a year and it never crashed on me. And I’ve watched YouTube on it and changed the settings.

Ublock Origin uses a noticeable amount of resources. It may be that your computer just doesn’t have enough RAM to run it and heavy sites like YouTube at the same time.

Vivaldi itself is slightly heavier than “plain” versions of Chrome and Firefox because of all the UI stuff, so it could be exacerbating the issue.

I’d suggest confirming this by opening the task manager alongside the browser.

You might want to read through this (or a similar explainer on why YouTube and uBO aren’t pals): https://www.hollyland.com/blog/tips/make-ublock-origin-work-on-youtube

If you install free Chromium as an alternative browser, because it uses the same engine under the hood, you can see better if you are having a Vivaldi problem or a Chromium problem, in which case V and C will show the same symptoms. Firefox uses its own web engine so you can only see if the extension is the problem.

I read a toot that V did have problems recently but I think they have pushed out an update for that. So hopefully your settings crash might be fixed already.
