Wasn’t the California bill just a requirement to self report your birth date, and that’s it?
If this is the same bill, then it may be bad that it doesn’t cover all OS’s. A federal law may be able to require far worse.
The age verification is a blatant lie. It was always about ID verification and tracking.
Marketing companies want to ID bots and collect real marketing data to sell for advertising. Governments want to track citizens and isolate any dissidents and nonconformists as well as track spending and therefore collect more tax revenue.
If that makes it through, that’s unexpected but welcome news. Hopefully the other governments looking to enact this (foolish) legislation will follow.
Hopefully it pushes people to adopt open source operating systems, which would now have another big advantage
Or it forces Microslop, Apple, and Google to fully open source their OSes.
Either way, a win.
More likely they’ll keep lobbying (corruption) to insist in passing laws
Huge win. Skeptical this will spread but would be great to see wider adoption.
Don’t let these clowns off the hook for rushing to put this into systemd and major distros.
When people tell you who they are, believe them.
