Wanted to share this here for people who might be interested and want to support it. It has been shared a lot on Mastodon but not much anywhere else.

I personally think it would be awesome if this succeeded, the last attempt was an OpenNIC TLD, so not an official TLD and it wasn’t very popular for that reason. This one is an official TLD so it could be used by anyone and accessed by everyone should the campaign be successful.

If I had enough money, I would 100% donate enough so that if it becomes a TLD I would get at least one domain voucher specifically for my purposes.

Probably Mascot tier, but you better believe I’d go for the The Dragon top $5000 tier if I could. Specifically for taking already popular sites and making .furry versions that link back to either myself or maybe just sites like FurAffinity or Weasyl.

    Feels similar to https://www.dotmeow.org/.

I may’ve missed it but it seems that, unlike the other project, this one’s just a TLD? The thing I really like about the .meow project is the nonprofit setup behind it to channel the excess money made to Queer causes and organization, to create real infrastructure for being able to protect our community.

I’m guessing they didn’t go with .fur because it’s already been used before by FurNIC (per wikipedia)? .furry is sort of unwieldy to pair with most website names that aren’t specifically designed to go with it, so it’s a bit stifling in that sense (like, lemmy.fur vs lemmy.furry)

Damn… I’m working on making a new furry site for myself and some of my work, but now I’m wondering if I should wait until 2028 so I can register it with a .furry domain…
