By ‘feckless Liberals’ here I’m referring to the Liberal caucus. I give Liberal voters a lot more grace because, in my opinion, Mark Carney did a lot to misrepresent who he was before and during the election. But unlike voters, caucus has things they could do right now to stop this, now that it’s clear who Carney is.

      Did he, though?

I was lucky enough to live in a riding with strong support for a different party, so I didn’t need to vote strategically, but I’m glad Canadians largely did.

PP is almost Trump-level unhinged. As much as I hate the general move to neoliberal economic policy, reduction of regulations and lack of oversight (and Bill C-22), the cluster fuck of the PC party we have in power is still better than the alt-right MAGA-wannabees who would have won otherwise.

I don’t think he was hiding his neoliberalism at all but, with the NDP imploding and the swelling support for the hateful bigotry party, the Liberals winning was the best possible outcome. A lot of voters were holding their noses last election.

What we really need in this country is Single Transferable Vote. So long as we use FPTP, we’re going to oscillate between frying pan and fire, with regulatory lurch damaging Canada as a safe place for long-term capital investment.
