I’m not completely opposed to hosting these mega-events, or subsidizing them to a degree. Whatever you might think about the “prestige” factor, they can be a good excuse to ram through valuable infrastructure projects.
But the devil’s in the details (and FIFA in this instance is a literal devil), and it’s madness to expect an actual profit.

FIFA should have to pay for EVERYTHING related to hosting a world cup. The fact that they get to be massive leeches and suck money from these places without spending a dime for their own money is so greedy and gross.
Well there’s a lot of liquor getting sold at bar markup, so that’s something.
You get that without hosting.
And is anyone watching this shit on tv either? Some of my local stations have completely halted regular programming to air this shit all day long.
