Play BG3 and then any Elder Scrolls games and you quickly realize how desperately they need to hire a director of cinematography or at least contract one. Not for the trailers. For the dialogue. That flat, direct-on approach to the camera angle when you are talking to someone has got to go. It’s like they are saying “here, look how ugly our models and textures are up close. See how badly our facial expression animations can be under scrutiny? Thanks. We wanted you to notice in the worst way.” In Morrowind the way they did dialogue was novel and cool. Now it looks amateur at best and downright lazy most of the time. They’ve put zero thought into it.

Hard to be enthused for the remasters if they are similar to the Oblivion one.

And to be honest I have grown tired of the same gameplay loop for two decades at this point.

Fallout 5 is in pre-production? Still? After eleven fucking years?

No wonder they gave the IP to Obsidian to play with. At this rate I expect Fallout 5 and Elder Scrolls 6 to just never come out.

        • Do you think they wrote a good story first and then spent the rest of their time whittling it down into the least memorable piece of shit they could turn it into or do you think they just really nailed that on their first try

That reminds me, it does amuse me that when you search “Emil Pagliarulo” on YouTube it just brings up a bunch of videos about how much he sucks

And rightfully so. For Skyrim and Fallouts 4 (and maybe other stuff prior?) he was able to coast off of an existing setting written by more talented people. When he doesn’t have that crutch and is responsible for coming up with original ideas, the best he can do is “sure the guy who invented the warp drive was worse than Hitler by a factor of several hundred, but he had to do it because space is really cool”.

In one of the last missions, you learn from audio logs at an abandoned NASA facility on earth that the guy who “created” the warp drive did so having learned how to from some magic precursor artifact. Due to the artifact, he also knew that using it would destroy the magnetosphere of the planets it was used around over time. He also knew that doing so would result in only a few million people being able to evacuate earth before it became uninhabitable and therefore he was sentencing 99+% of humanity to death. He did this anyway because “going to space is just so important”. There is no actual reason ever given in game for why someone would actually want to go to space because frankly space in Starfield is boring as fuck.

To make things even worse, he also knew that this fundamental flaw in FTL tech would actually be solvable with a software patch but didn’t deploy it because I guess he just wanted to be the worst genocidaire of all time.

To make things even more worse, IIRC THE GAME NEVER ACTUALLY ADDRESSES THAT HE DID THIS. You have to read between the lines that this random engineer is history’s greatest monster.

Maybe he wanted to copy the one good part of Horizon Zero Dawn, where a tech bro dipshit destroys the planet because he’s a tech bro dipshit, but without understanding what made that backstory work.

Their “copy something from precursor technology” world building point itself being a copy of precursor technology (Mass Effect in this case)? How meta! Maybe Emil Pagliarulo is a clever writer after all. /j

The theory is this is the new Xbox boss capitalizing on Fallout’s popularity after it being weirdly, well, not capitalized on for the past several years despite the show.

    Smart and long overdue tbh

Nice; fallout 3’s graphics have not aged well, and I’ve heard there’s serious compatibility issues with both fallout 3 and new vegas, so remasters should be nice (unless they botch these as well, which would be in keeping with tradition, I just hope they don’t)

It’ll be AI upscaled and the compatibility updates will be vibe coded in Copilot, the only part working on release is making it crash if you arent using Windows 11
