I have bad news – accept that you are probably not going to meaningfully push back on any of this. This is not a feature of AI, it’s a feature of dysfunctional companies.
Why are these companies dysfunctional in the first place? Companies’ main purpose is to make profit, they would not exist otherwise, functionally or dysfunctionally. Of course one person cannot pushback against what the executives at a company want. I do like how he’s not pinning the problem on AI specifically here but the relations between employees and the company.
If you feel like you’re going absolutely nuts, consider switching over to contracting. I’ve advocated for contracting many times over full-time employment, but you’ll get paid a lot more and be left out of most internal politics. Also when you run into a really intolerable situation, you’ll know that you’ve got a fixed end-date.
Just switch jobs. Also a job that gives you less stability. Seems we are heading in the wrong direction here…
When someone tells me they are using AI for something when they really shouldn’t be, I smile and nod as long as they are unlikely to get themselves killed. Even family. Especially family.
Yea, ive also kind of accepted this. The less technical people are the more polarized they are with AI doing this or that and they just want to hear whatever you reinforces this polarization.
I was kind of hoping this article would go more into how people are offloading all their decision making to LLMs, which I do find interesting because it must be leading to some kind of mean of people acting or producing the same thing.
There does seem to be an “AI orthodoxy” in alot of workplaces, that in my opinion isnt even about how AI works, but how people react and interact with a tool/technology. It just so happens that AI is this technology and it has captured many capitalists’ interest. I think this is not new but it exposes the relations of production much more clearly, and people are seeing the absurdity of it more naked.
