yoo thats a cool rocket, gonna get it in ksp next time
So one of the first bicycles (I’m sure there was a dude in rural India or smth who did it at a similar time) was invented by this guy Karl Drais. The bicycle didn’t have any pedals you’d just push yourself with your legs, but apparently people were still freaking out they were zooming too fast and too furious on the pavement.
And that’s not the only shit he invented: he did stenography, a device that recorded piano music on paper, some neat typewriter stuff and a ton more. It was a cool time to be a well off whiteboy in Germany fr fr.
But the interesting part about Drais is that he was surprisingly and tragically based for his time: he supported antimonarchists revolution in Baden but got tarred (like, literally) by a mob because his noble conservative judge dad was doing conservative noble judge stuff.
He said f that and went to Brazil for a bit but it sucked (because no offence it was Brazil in 1830s) so he returned only to get almost murderated for being in line for the titles of his dead daddy.
While he was inventing meatgrinder (no joke) the 1840s rolled in, Baden finally had a revolution and our boi Drais was like hell yeah! drop the noble “von”, call me citizen Karl Drais, fuck the prince etc. Except the revolution got quickly crushed, Karl got most of his shit taken, his sanity questioned, and he died destitute :(
His bicycle was called Dandy Horse though isn’t it cute in a 19th century gonna-crush-my-last-two-fingers-at-the-factory-for-a-bowl-of-soup way ^^
