So I live in the US, in a very red state. (And not the based kind of red) Our election commercials are all “I am the true conservative and that’s a good thing,” or “I’ll keep those dirty illegals out of our state!” “Such-and-such amendment will destroy our constitution!” Like, I’m tired man.
I was having a pleasant conversation with my father and he smoothly pivoted into an Islamophobic tirade about Muslims ruining America and bringing crime and poverty.
For context we live 5,100 km in a straight line away from the United States, in a country with a Muslim majority. This was triggered by me talking about planning a trip to a European country next year (expensive but it’ll be good for me, I don’t travel much besides going around the Middle East for work)
Twitter is completely melting older people’s brains and taking small cracks in their otherwise functional worldviews and filling them with dynamite. I swear people weren’t always this proud of being shitty
The modern conservative is a misinformed, scared person lacking the intellectual base needed to navigate the modern world. No amount of talking can reach 99% of them because they’re inundated with propaganda news. You can take their arguments apart piece by piece with data and statistics and when you leave them with no valid points they’ll just say “I trust what I see with my own eyes” or some baseless reason they can disregard facts.
If I were into arson, I’d start my spree by burning down every 24 hour news network as well as meta+Twitter. Maybe then they’d have a sliver of a chance to pull their heads out of their ass’.
