I usually say “I’m talking about a systemic issue, not you personally.” Because you should care in general - we live in a racist society and can’t opt out of context.
Separating the societal circumstance from the individual circumstance seems really important for this discussion but ideally the same person who is uncomfortable with systemic racism is equally uncomfortable with interpersonal racism.
