Reddits moneitized enshitification has finally caused me to use a blocking script to prevent me from even opening their site. They have made browsing impossible outside of their logged in ecosphere. Old.reddit requires a login now. At least for me if I fell into the A/B testing that forced it.
It’s tragic. So many niche topics, resources, etc. exist there. Now locked behind the equivilant of a digital border wall. I’m not sure why it bothers me so much. Perhaps the closure of another more familiar space. Perhaps nostalgia for the old reddit. Or perhaps just another example of greed and tech bros taking away and wrecking a digital third space. Perhaps I should have called it when many others did when Spez took over and the process all started.
Alas, poor woodworking, specialty coffee, DMAcademy. Good bye and good night.
I like to lurk there. I found if you go directly to the sub you want to browse it’s not blocked. Or at least for me. I browse less popular subreddits.
Regardless, welcome to the fediverse. It’s fun here too.
There’s one or two subs which I go on to actively help people but anything else is from a search to try to fix a problem or get linked to a game’s Discord. I can’t even bring myself to moderate the huge sub I’m on because it’s the same old, boring, negative (and often hateful) bullshit.
i have a bunch of reddit accounts, and I’m always paranoid I won’t be able to log in and delete my account, so every few weeks, the mobile app stops working because they want age-verification/ upload passport or some shit - then I delete my entire account and start using another one, eventually I’ll run out and quit forever
you don’t have to tolerate this. we have nice content here too \o/
I ran into this as well. I think I got around it with a custom uBlock filter. I can’t blame you for ditching the site completely though, that’s totally understandable.
