Hey everyone, my alternate-history Soviet Union lunar colony game is finally available on Steam!
https://store.steampowered.com/app/5027410/Lunokhod/
Thanks to everyone here who playtested it and gave feedback.
All proceeds will go towards the Prairieland Defendants funds until they close donations. At which point I will find a new place to donate the money.
The game is also free with optional donation on itch.io. If you do want to buy a copy, it’s honestly better to buy on itch so I get 100% of the proceeds (Steam normally takes a 30% cut).

If you don’t want to pay for it but want it in your Steam library, just DM me and I will give you a free Steam key.
Wishlisting the game helps a ton with the Steam algorithm so even if you don’t want to play it, adding it to your wishlist helps the game get more visibility in the Steam store.
This was my first game and it honestly kind of sucks. I am in the early stages of a new project and post updates regularly here:

instant bought.
sorry just saw the itch.io part after.
Ooh, a loose executable to chmod 755.
I wish I could shift-click queue separate actions, specifically shift-click the automine button so I can tell a rover to build something then go back to automining once it’s done.
Edit: some tips I’ve discovered from my first playthrough:
The Lenin buff is indicated by a blue underglow, and doesn’t fall off immediately on leaving the statue range. Having a statue near a refinery will keep all the rovers delivering to that refinery Lenin’d up as long as they’re not making too long a trip back and forth
After building the central refinery, the regular refineries seem to function as drop off points for it.

Yep that’s intentional, they keep the buff for 30s after leaving Lenin range

Yes refineries will send all their regolith to the central refinery which has a 2x conversion rate. Unfortunately the central refinery is probably the most opaque mechanic in the game, I think most players never had an issue with that though since you can intuit “big refinery go brrr”. I was going to add some pipes from the refineries to the central refinery to indicate this, but I had to say “no” to a lot of things and just focus on shipping.
It says it supports Windows 7, have you tested that?

I have been using Wine in Windows 7 compatability mode to test it since I’m on Linux, but it’s not 1:1. Were you able to get more info about what caused the failure?
I have bought it! I love to see game devs on Hexbear!!
I wish I checked this out earlier for playtesting!!
I gotta get back into doing some projects.
Can I do text to speech in it and say “John madden john madden John madden, FOOTBALL!”
Im partial to the Soviet anthem one you could put in chat

Snake, SNAKE! Snaaaaaaaaakkkkkkeeee!
uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
How I how I get power?
Want to touch noodles? Hehehehe
the OST is not finished yet
Are you open to collaboration on that?
Oops, I need to update the itch.io description page. I am done with the OST for this project, but I do need music for a planned project that will take me a looooong time to get off the ground likely. Do you have a Soundcloud?
I do have a Soundcloud but not much is on there and it’s all very old. I feel like I have a better ear for mastering now (also better equipment). I’d be happy to take a prompt and try to come up with something; even if I could just provide an idea and some stems and you want to remix/master it yourself
Yeah I’ll dm you
Cool as fuck I love how many game devs we have on Hexbear
We could probably start a game studio at this point
Then we could release one critically acclaimed game and then split off as personal differences rip us apart

As is tradition
Maybe we can just skip that step and just make five separate studios right now
Let’s brainstorm some names and then we can circle back around and check in with each other
Hexcorp
Bean`Is Us
TheBearCompany
Split Party
Trotskyism simulator. You have to do management Sim of a socialist newspaper. Like game dev Sim or something.
I dislike Trots… but I do like the idea of a game where you run a commie newspaper. Hmm…

I remember seeing posts about that Kor game is there a third released game frim a hexbear dev or that it so far?
We have the developer of Guardian Cry as well. And others
there the Mecha John Brown game from a few days ago
Oh shit I didnt notice that was an actual game thought it was a meme lol
game jam projects are often both lol

This looks so cool, I bought it, looking forward to tomorrow evening to play it

Update: I was not expecting it to be this polished to be honest, you’ve done an amazing job! I really like the little details like the retro numpad thing for the build options with the tactile sounds, and the controls are very intuitive and simple for this kind of game. I also like the meteor showers being a problem on the one hand but creating resources on the other
Thank you! A lot of this was due to feedback from the playtesters here. I gave myself a 3 month timeline to keep the gameplay as simple as possible and focus on getting something shipped with polish so it means a lot to hear you say that!
YOOOOOOO. I think about that build you posted from time to time and the placeholder voiceline that went like “hey there buddy you’re gonna need to build more population cap”.
Super excited you got this published lessgoooo

Yeah that was me doing a southern accent into my phone microphone lol. I guess I must have posted a pretty early build here, I forgot about that.
hell yes! would love to support this directly, look for a dm from me comrade

Well done comrade, I’m proud of you. I’ll pick up a copy when I’m back home.
Hell yeah that is my kind of vibe, purchased and wishlisted. I really loved the old Outpost (1994) game. If you ever need help with a mac port, lmk.
The Mac export in Godot is already configured since my first few playtesters were on Mac. The issue is that I think you need to jump through some hoops to get it signed on Mac so that it can run as a trusted app. IIRC there are some licensing fees you gotta pay right?
Yeah, its $100. I’m fine with an untrusted app on itch.io tho.
Ok Mac build is up. It should work on any CPU arch.
Thanks! Just tried it, it’s fun so far! However my touchpad scroll doesn’t zoom in and out.
Oh shoot, I don’t think anyone tested with a mac trackpad yet. I’ll look into it when I get home.
happy to test more, i left off when the meteors came
Oh ok if you’re fine with it being unsigned and on itch I can add it there then.
