People downvoting you don’t have any experience with organized theivery purporting itself as a custom. Plenty of respectable Romani that don’t act like con artists and crooks, but there are also plenty still causing the stigma to remain. Especially in Eastern Europe.

Why not call it criminal gangs, when that is what it is? Making an entire ethnic group responsible for the actions of some is racism.
I feel like that distinction is made by using the words Romani or Gypsy.
