Thinking back to the Chinese civil war when Nationalist commanders would disguise themselves as rank-and-file when captured and one found himself last in the line.
The Communists would give each prisoner two gold coins, tell them to go back to their villages, and release them.
The Communists found themselves short one coin for the last prisoner so this Nationalist general just stands there sweating insisting they don’t need the full two coins as the communist regiment trifles through their entire inventory insisting they provide equal treatment to all prisoners, not knowing this was a shoot-on-sight guy in hiding.
